Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles between the eyes and on the forehead to form over time. Botox® is a simple, non-invasive procedure that must be administered by a physician. Botox® was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the 1980’s. Small, diluted amounts of the botulism in botox® can be beneficial in the way of controlled weakened muscles, leaving a smooth wrinkle-free appearance. However, too much of the solution can have a negative effect such as droopy eyelids; which is rare. Botox is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines.
The Procedure:
Botox® is injected with a small gauge needle into the specific targeted with mild discomfort. The entire procedure last only a few minutes with visible results taking up to five to seven days. Fore best results, it is suggested to avoid alcohol one week prior to treatment. If necessary, aspirin or anti-flammatory drugs can be used to reduce bruising or possible headaches. |
